ROUTE 5 - Bighorn Pass Variation

Variation Description

Bighorn Pass VariationBighorn Pass (11,240 ft/N 37º 27.961', W 118º 51.933') separates Rosy Finch Lake (ROUTE 5) and Laurel Lake (ROUTE 4), making combination of segments of these two loops straightforward. [Note: this is more clear on the ROUTE 4 map.] Rosy Finch Lake is more easily passed to the north. The climb to the pass is easy Class 2 in crampons on firm snow, probably more tedious when snow free. Descend the east side to the northeast.

Bighorn Pass can be used in combination with Grinnell Pass (ROUTE 4) to cross the Silver Divide.
